Peregrine House extension openingThe Marquis and Marchioness of Normanby officially opened the new extension at Peregrine House in Whitby on Tuesday 28th May.  The party began at 3pm with entertainment with entertainment from James Somers.  The Marquis formally unveiled a plaque commemorating the new extension and the Marchioness was presented with a bouquet of flowers by Emily Cockerill, daughter of the home’s administration manager.
The new extension created 11 state-of-the-art new rooms with cathedral ceilings and en-suite wet rooms.  The home’s enlarged lounge/dining room extends to a raised terrace with views of the garden, with the former lounge upstairs now providing two new bedrooms. Other bedrooms have also been upgraded and the improvements provide level access into the new reception area, a large staff room, office, laundry room, hair salon and storage rooms.

Award winning Yorkshire architects Bierley Groom, who specialise in residential care homes, came up with the design which brings light into Peregrine House whilst complementing the original Victorian building. The project will be entered in the Pinders Healthcare Design Awards.

Peregrine House extension openingLocal Whitby building firm J D Roach has carried out the work, which has extended over a 15 month period.  The team of builders have become part of the ‘family’ at Peregrine House and have worked hard to minimise the disruption for the residents throughout the extensive project.

The work now means that Peregrine House, which is run by Alison Bedford, the current Care Home Manager of the Year for the whole of the UK, has 35 well-appointed bedrooms, 16 of which are on the ground floor.  The improvements provide unparalleled facilities for the ongoing care of residents ranging from healthy, active individuals – and even married couples – to people with degenerating dementia conditions requiring specialist care.

Among the thirty or so guests at the extension opening ceremony was Martin Goodall of HSBC bank who said “We are proud of the achievements of Peregrine House and pleased to support Dr. Kevin O’Sullivan and his team in their continuing investment in this superlative care facility.”
