broadcasting at Drystone

Former trainee at Drystone, Dan Ellsion – Bates, now Broadcast Journalist under graduate.

Cowling-based community radio station Drystone Radio has moved to a new FM frequency with a stronger signal from a better transmitter.  The DJs are now broadcasting their full programme daily from just a bit further down the dial, on 103.5FM.

A large team of volunteers will be assisting in the massive outside broadcasting undertaking for the forthcoming Tour de France, with up to 30 people following the action live on air from various points around the course as the huge processional caravan and race travels through Craven on 5th and 6th July.

Coverage of the action will begin at 4am on both days, with race commentary and outside broadcasts at Holy Trinity Church in Skipton on Saturday and Silsden Football Club on Sunday in addition to the live phone-ins from Drystone contributors at key vantage points along the route as it makes its way through the area.

Station founder David Adams is also pleased to announce the introduction of a new training scheme at the station for groups of up to five people over the age of 14 and under 90 to learn the essentials of broadcasting, editing and radio journalism.  The project has been developed following a long history of developing these skills in individuals who have gone on to pursue a radio career into further education and commercial radio and at the BBC.

David explains “From fostering talent such as ‘Crazy Daisy’ who reached celebrity status worldwide, to helping others gain
