Yorkshire tech firm pioneers new relaxation therapy

Yorkshire-based firm Kodo Bioscience Ltd has been formed to develop a revolutionary device offering a drug free alternative for treating stress, anxiety and depression.

Launching at London’s Professional Spa & Wellness Convention this month, Kodobio Sensory Therapy is a ground breaking relaxation therapy, scientifically proven to provide a significant mood boost to the human body; lowering blood pressure, reducing heart rate and positively improving a user’s mood through the use of bright lights combined with specific aromas.

Following ten years of scientific research, Cardiff University Professor of Cell Physiology, Tim Jacob, approached Skipton technology business Chelker Technology to partner on the design and manufacture of the device and introduce it globally to the health and spa wellness industry.

An innovative user-friendly device designed and manufactured in Yorkshire, the Kodobio is placed in front of the face to deliver the therapy treatment. Full spectrum bright white light (similar to sunshine) is emitted up and down on a 60 second cycle along with a choice of key aromas which have been scientifically proven to have a positive result.

Unlike aromatherapy, which is not scientifically accredited, Kodobio Sensory Therapy uses only very specific aroma formulations which in extensive testing have improved the mood of the patients according to POMS tests which are also used to test clinical drug treatments for depression.

Neil Kernot, Managing Director of Chelker Technology and co-director of Kodo Bioscience explains, “As specialists at Chelker in engineering and product design we have seen many innovative products developed over the years but this is the first time that I have been sufficiently impressed to become a business partner with a client.  Kodobio has such enormous potential offering as it does a natural, non-invasive therapy proven to tackle stress, anxiety, energy deficiency and depression.  These are sadly all symptoms of our increasingly busy lives and modern lifestyles. We are very excited to be playing a key role in delivering this innovative technology to the spas and end-users and recognise its power to offer life changing results for people seeking a safe option to treat stress or depression.”

Even before its launch at the end of February, leading European spa group Aspria signed up to champion the Kodobio in Brussels.  Commercial Spa Manager Asli Akbulut said:

“We are delighted a scientifically developed treatment is now available combining the benefits of both light and smell therapy. We look forward to helping our members and guests discover the relaxing, mood boosting and energising benefits of Kodobio Sensory Therapy.”
