Grassington Festival 2019 tickets on sale in time for Christmas
With tickets on sale from 7th December, Grassington Festival have revealed the first acts booked to perform at 2019’s festival, once again bringing entertainment of a very high calibre to the Yorkshire Dales.
Comedy fans will be thrilled with Saturday 22nd June’s Comedy Night at the Festival Hall, featuring rising stars Sindhu Vee, David Haddingham, headlined by acclaimed Mock the Week regular, Ed Byrne.
On a more serious note, on Monday 24th June constitutional historian and radio and television presenter David Starkey explores the misconceptions that our modern Royals are in some way more radical in their actions than their ancestors.
On Sunday 23rd June three-time BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winners The Young’uns will present “The Ballad of Johnny Longstaff” – a new and unique piece of modern folk theatre, telling the true tale of one man’s adventure from begging on the streets in the north of England to fighting against fascism in the Spanish Civil War, taking in the Hunger Marches and the Battle of Cable Street. The Young’uns trademark harmonies weave between the real recorded voice of Johnny himself to tell a remarkable human story oozing with modern relevance.
Folk fans are spoilt for choice, with that and the opportunity to see multi-award-winning Irish folk singer Cara Dillon on Tuesday 25th June. Described by Mojo Magazine as possessing “what may well be the world’s most beautiful female voice”, and with self-professed fans including Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith, this is a fantastic chance to catch a very intimate performance in the Festival Hall.
The first Classical music offering to be announced is the annual Festival Gala Concert, this year featuring the exciting new Borealis Choir, a superb eight-piece a cappella vocal group from West Yorkshire. The concert will take place on Sunday 23rd June at Bolton Priory Church.
And if you’re looking to put on your dancing shoes, look no further than Friday 28th June, when Dave Finnegan’s Commitments take to the Festival Hall stage. This nine-piece soul band, fronted by the only original cast member still performing, will get the crowd going performing hits from the likes of Otis Reading and Wilson Pickett.
The Festival Last Night Party on Saturday 29th June sees an opportunity to let loose with the ultimate female rock concert – Queens of Rock. Three powerhouse vocalists will rock out with songs by Cher, Bonnie Tyler, Heart, Janis Joplin and more, ending the Festival on a high.
