Staff at Drake & Macefield butchers are celebrating receiving another national award for their acclaimed pie-making, this time scooping a Bronze award in the British Pie Awards which were announced on Friday 2nd March.
Their scrumptious Venison, Mushroom & Red Wine Pie entry was certainly a game contender in the Game Pie category of the annual awards which have been running for 16 years.
Drake & Macefield, Craven’s longest serving butchers, were among 900 entrants from across the UK including independent bakers, butchers, pubs, sports clubs, fish & chip shops and specialist pie manufacturers.
The contest comprised 24 different classes judged by a team of 140 judges. Dr Matthew O’Callaghan, Chairman of the British Pie Awards, noted that meat-based pie entries dominated the top four classes with beef and alcohol topping the entry rankings.
Steve Teal, Director at Drake & Macefield said “We’re really chuffed to have been recognised in these national awards for one of our lesser-known pies.”
Pie lovers can find the tasty Venison, Mushroom & Red Wine pie at Drake & Macefield shops in Skipton, Settle and Crosshillls.
