As the award-winning community renewable energy initiative Settle Hydro celebrates its 10th birthday, artists are being invited to produce a piece of artwork celebrating its first decade.
All the entries will be displayed at an autumn exhibition about the Hydro at The Folly Museum & Gallery in Settle and will be submitted into a competition. The winning piece, subject to planning permission, will be enlarged to 3.2m x 0.8m, digitally printed and installed externally as a permanent artwork on the sluice gate casing at the Hydro site on the River Ribble. The winning artist will be given a membership share of Settle Hydro Ltd (worth £250).
Ann Harding, a founder of the Settle Hydro Scheme and a member of the board explains: “The judges will be looking for the winning entry to depict the role of Settle Hydro in harnessing the river to provide clean hydro-electric power as a renewable community energy resource combatting climate change. At the same time, it should portray the place of the Hydro within the community and celebrate the heritage of its home in Bridge End Mill.”
Settle Hydro when it was founded in 2009, was a pioneering and award-winning community project which has since provided inspiration, expertise and a benchmark for hydro schemes across the globe.
Artists interested in exhibiting and participating in the competition are invited to visit the hydro website for an entry form and technical guidelines at http://www.settlehydro.org.uk/competition.html
