Yorkshire textile firm The Stitch Society has been announced as a finalist in the Blue Patch Awards.
Charlotte Meek, entrepreneurial founder of The Stitch Society was shortlisted for the category Social Impact Award of the Year by Blue Patch, a prestigious curator of ‘Inspiringly fine things – made in Britain’.
To be listed as a ‘Blue Patch’ company, organisations need to meet stringent criteria, including the guarantee that their goods are sourced and manufactured ethically and sustainably in the UK. The Blue Patch Social Impact Award celebrates socially minded businesses aiming to make a difference to their local communities and the environment.
Dovetailing perfectly with that ethos, Charlotte’s firm has already been recognised as an emerging British brand, designing and manufacturing premium work aprons to artisans and consumers around the globe. Appealing to a growing number of discerning customers including professional crafters and artisans, the Stitch Society uses the highest quality UK sourced cloth and reclaimed materials to produce garments which are impeccably handmade.
As well as offering an exclusive product range, Charlotte seeks to address the skill shortage facing the British textile industry. The Stitch Society has partnered with Leeds College to launch The Textile Academy at Keighley College in order to develop a teaching program reflecting the real skill-set needed in today’s market place. Earlier this year the firm was a finalist at the Keighley Business Awards.
Charlotte is delighted with the commendation from Blue Patch which recognises her achievement in fostering the UK textile industry while developing a unique and high quality range of exclusive practical garments with a low carbon footprint.
“We believe businesses ‘reap what they sew’, and I am proud of this Blue Patch achievement which acknowledges what we do and the spirit in which we work.”
