Children at Threshfield School in the Yorkshire Dales enjoyed a rare opportunity to work with a masterchef when John Rudden of the award-winning Grassington House Hotel spent the afternoon with children, teaching them how to make fresh pasta.

Year 3&4 pupils were able to make the pasta dough from scratch with eggs and flour and then learnt how to shape it to form lasagne and ravioli.

John then cooked the ravioli for them to eat.

Head Teacher Susan Weightman said “We were delighted that John was able to give up his time to come and teach the children that not all pasta comes out of a box or a tin!  They all had a wonderful time and were learning at the same time.”

John commented “Some of the children showed real enthusiasm and aptitude for the job; there may be some budding young chefs of the future there and I hope the hands-on pasta demonstration inspires them to cook and bake at home to develop their culinary skills using all natural ingredients.”

John also hosts a series of masterclasses for grown-ups at Grassington House, though they are not usually quite as hands-on as the opportunity for these lucky youngsters.
