Irene Chenery & Carol Maher
A chance meeting at a mediation training course in 1993 and a conversation about their mutual belief in the mediation concept – unusual in the law profession at the time – marked the beginning of a solid friendship and business relationship for Irene Chenery and Carol Maher of Chenery Maher Solicitors in Clitheroe.
As their friendship developed they learned that they were born just two days apart, both raised in the north-west and had both studied at Chester Law College. Five years later in 1998 Chenery Maher Solicitors was formed, built on that rare key premise from their first meeting – mediation.
The practice specialises in family law, wills, probate, conveyancing and elderly law. Entirely client focused, the partners act only for private individuals, men or women. Their holistic approach is personal, friendly and caring – so much so that they work closely with local counsellor, Jayne Walker, and life coach Louise Yates, to give clients professional guidance as well as legal support in their times of need.
Former joint chairs of the hugely successful fundraising body Ribble & Valley White Rose Ladies, Carol and Irene are now active supporters of Age UK, in keeping with their Irene’s role on the specialist panel Solicitors for the Elderly. Their autumn fundraising art exhibition transformed the Church Street, Clitheroe offices into an elegant gallery featuring sculptures and pictures by prestigious local artists Jo Taylor and Clare Bigger.
