The Yorkshire Dales is about to be thrust back into the national consciousness with a new incarnation of the much loved series All Creatures Great and Small featuring vintage vet ‘James Herriot’ hitting our small screens next year.
While film crews transform the local villages to recall those bygone days it’s an exciting time to experience first-hand the wild, unique Yorkshire Dales scenery, famous for its crumbling barns and dry stone walls creating a patchwork of the rolling hills. It’s the perfect setting for a romantic getaway, and traditional 17th century inn The Tennants Arms Hotel has created the perfect winter break for couples with its new ‘Date Nights’ experience.
Nestled beneath the iconic Kilnsey Crag, the setting means guests can revel in stunning vistas across Wharfedale from the comfort of boutique rooms dressed for romance and with champagne and chocolate truffles included – best shared in a deep, relaxing slipper bath or a comfy four poster bed.
The experience also includes a gastro treat with dinner prepared by a duo of talented chefs both of whom have previously worked in Michelin starred establishments.
By day there are plenty of stunning and fascinating walks to build up an appetite around the hotel, such as the ancient monastic drovers road, Mastiles Lane; a long and steep green lane forging its way to neighbouring Malhamdale, the fishing lakes and nature trails of Kilnsey Park Estate, the hidden Iron Age settlements of Lea Green and the ancient native limestone woodland of Grass Wood alongside the meandering River Wharfe. Return to the hotel and warm up by the open fire in the bar.
