Whitby care home Peregrine House is once again in the running for a major award. Owners Dr. Kevin and Teresa O’Sullivan have been nominated, shortlisted and interviewed for the Employer of the Year Award at the Great Yorkshire & Humberside Care Awards.
Along with seven other finalists in their category, the O’Sullivan’s will have to wait until the prestigious award ceremony at The National Railway Museum in York on Friday 8th November to know if they can follow in the footsteps of their employee, Alison Bedford. Last year Alison won her category of Care Home Manager of the Year and later went on to claim the national title.
Staff, residents and the their relatives note however that it is not their financial investment that sets Peregrine House apart, but the ethos that the O’Sullivans have towards the home. Displayed in the reception area is their mission statement to make Peregrine House ‘A great place to live and a great place to work’.
Under the mentoring guidance of Kevin and Teresa, many members of staff have developed from junior roles through to managerial status and the care taken in nurturing employees has been recognised in the home achieving an Investors in People Gold Award.
Dr. Kevin O’Sullivan said “We’re thrilled and honoured to have been nominated as Employer of the Year by the staff here and some of our suppliers too. If feels odd being shortlisted and in the spotlight ourselves when it is their hard work that keeps the home running so smoothly whether we are there or not.”
