Local horse riders have been invited to an open event on July 3rd starting from Hebdon Wood Equestrian Centre in Bishop Thornton, near Ripley.
The Pleasure Ride is a joint event between Brimham Riding Club and the local branch of the British Horse Society (BHS) and provides an opportunity for riders to get together to enjoy a safe hack with great views and refreshments en-route.
The eleven mile circuit, with shorter options available, takes in bridleways, farm tracks and quiet country lanes suitable for riders of all levels.
Riders can enter on the day, or beforehand at www.horsevents.co.uk. The event starts at 9.30am and all riders need to have set off by 11.30am. The cost to non-members is £15.
The North West Yorkshire branch will be showcasing the work of the BHS at the event and are appealing for a new volunteer to join as an Access Officer for the area. Any off road routes which are currently used by horse riders but are not currently recorded as bridleways need to be officially recorded or they will be extinguished in 2026 and help is needed in making this happen.
Caroline Bradley who is the BHS’s County Access & Bridleways Officer explains “We hope riders will come along to the Pleasure Ride and visit our tent to learn more about the vitally important access issue which affects all our bridleways. If we don’t ride them and register them we will lose them.”
